Sycamore Pumpkin Festival

Before heading home after visiting Shannon & Brennan, Gen and I decided to see the parade at the Sycamore Pumpkin Festival. I've been here several times as a child, but first saw the parade last year. Many schools from around the area were represented by their marching band. Here's a big one, NIU! Here are 2 tractors. The one is pulling a trailer with an old steam tractor. This is the Northern IL Steam Power Club and 2006 they celebrated 50 years. Gen knows one of the guys in the club. The Jesse White Tumbling Team is always fun to watch. They visited my grade school every few years. For the parade, they kept the mats on a van until they needed to do the big tricks. Each tumblers standing jumped off the trampoline beforehand. It's always fun watching the Tebala Shriners run around in their crazy gear. The old guy on the left looks like a natural on those penny-farthing bicycles. All in all, it was a good parade with many different floats and lots of marching bands. On the way out, we checked out the decorated & carved pumpkins and grabbed some hot cider to warm up.

  1. Actually, I think the thing being towed behind the Miniapolis Moline (Grey) tractor would be a Kerosine Engine.

Quite simple, and being that large, probably a 3/4 horse to 1 horsepower- my Dad would know better, I didn't grow up with them, so I don't really know.

An engine that big would probably only need to fire once per 10 RPM with no load. If you ever get a chance to go to an old threshing show or tractor show, check them out, I think you would get a kick out of them.
