Spamalot

Today, Kerri & I went to see Spamalot. I never thought this would come because we bought our tickets back in December. As you can see it was playing at the Cadillac Theatre on Randolph. The blue line on the L took us to Clark/Lake. We arrived at the theatre an hour early and they hadn't opened the doors yet. I figured, to kill some time, we could walk down State street for a little bit. When we got to State street, we saw the Memorial Day parade was going on. I don't think we could have planned this if we tried. So we caught part of the parade. We headed back right after we saw half a dozen army style Hummers. The play was awesome. It was as good as the movie. I wasn't sure what to expect for a play of a movie. It turns out the play had the same plot, but a slightly different storyline. They added a few things and took out a few things. Singing and dancing was definitely added. After the play, we headed over to Millenium Park. Tip: stay above ground when traveling on foot; don't go underground unless you're going to the subway or Metra. We took an underground pass on Randolph, but were not led easily by the signs. I'm just glad it was daytime. First stop, the bean. This is a really cool shiny object (aka artwork) in the middle of the park. It curves up in the middle so you can walk underneath. In the center, it bubbles up and makes some really interesting reflections. The other attraction of Millenium Park, more so in the summer, is the Crown Fountain. It's these two 50 ft glass block towers that stand opposing to each other. They have faces on them that just smile, but they're not still pictures. Then every few minutes, water pours out from their mouths. The walk between the towers collects a shallow puddle of water, which is great entertainment for all the kids. Next we checked out the gardens and the outdoor pavilion. There are a lot of beautiful flowers in a nice off-to-the-side area. The pavilion is very unique with its waves of metal surrounding the stage. Then there's the audio system that is suspended from arched pillars past the pavilion seats and into the grass area. We walked on the winding BP bridge across Columbus drive. That wrapped up the day. It was so nice out; somewhat sunny, a bit warm, but a cool breeze to cool things off. Posted by Picasa
