The new living/dining room

A month ago, we finished repainting the living/dining room. It used to be all one color; a very light yellow towards the red spectrum. It was alright, but wasn't a really good contrasting color. My mom found this rust orange kind of color. We used a darkest shade for the dining room, 2 shades lighter for the living room and 2 shades lighter for the ceiling. There was one shade lighter, but we felt that it was too light. My brother took care of the ceiling (it would have been done faster if he got off his butt) using one of those rollers where the paint is stored in the handle like a syringe. Besides the color, the other big change was going from a flat to a satin finish. After 2 coats, it turned out pretty well. When everything was done, we noticed that some of the decorations didn't go well with the new wall color. My mom framed her collection of keys. Unlike those craft shows on TV, it took awhile to find frames and backgrounds and a fastening method for the keys. I think the final products look quite nice. Oh, that other framed object on lower left of the picture is an intercom. We've never used them, but they still work. I think it would be slightly handy if we still had one outside the front door. Here's the old couch. This antique is probably around 40 yrs old? I'll check on that. My dad's parents had it in their house with plastic on it. I'll post of a pic of that when I find it; hopefully it's not on a slide. The new couches came in today! This couch is much bigger, but more comfortable. I think it goes much better with the room too. That finishes the living/dining room. Posted by Picasa

  1. Very nice! I like it!

1 question about the comfort level of the new couch....

    you know what is coming...

    don't be shy...

tell the truth now, your mom doesn't read your blog....

    be honest...

Is it as comfortable as your couch in college?

  2. My couch is hard to match in comfort level; I've only come across 2 others that are close. The new couch is more of a firm couch, but not as firm as some others we saw.
