Trapped in Milwaukee

Alright, so the night comes to a close at Feryl's party. Most people leave and I follow suit. I felt fine for driving home and knew I had to help out with the shed the next day. Now, Google said to pick up 794 W off of Broadway, but it doesn't know about the craziness of Milwaukee. I get to Water St. and remember the new entrance to 94 from the redone 145. Oh look, it's closed. So I turned left and headed south. I hit Wisconsin and continued following the signs to 94. Except the signs all say 94 west, but I want east. Since I don't see any signs for 94 east, I figure I should be able to hit 43 by Marquette. Oh look, more construction, but some signs for 94. I follow those, but they lead me to 94 west again. Now, I'm not familiar with what streets hit 43, but figure there should be signs. I have a map, but it doesn't clearly show entrances & exits to the highway. I give up and head west on 94. I figure I can turn around and follow whatever detours arise. Miller Park is coming up and I see a detour sign for 94 east. Let me reiterate, I see a detour sign for 94 East heading on 94 West. Apparantly I'm not the only one who's heading west trying to go east (remember, it's east to Madison). This detour takes me off of 94 at 35th street and puts me on St. Paul heading east. Alright, now I'm heading in the right direction, but I'm not on the highway yet. I pass the closed entrance to the highway that I passed earlier. As I pass Marquette and below it's funky interchange, I'm in an area that I prefer not to be at night. Luckily I didn't see anyone; it's only Milwaukee and not Chicago. Back to downtown Milwaukee and on Milwaukee St. Now I take Clybourn west and am teased with the highway right next to me. I obeyingly follow the detour signs like the magic arrow in Crazy Taxi. This route starts to look familiar. It's the same route I take to get to National Ave. There goes La Perla and I continue south. Finally, at Lapham Blvd. there's an entrance to 94 east! I've made it out of Milwaukee! That only took about 30 minutes. Though I'm sure that I would have seent the detour signs if I had been on 6th street earlier, but I had no reason to be by the Bradley Center. It seems the MSOE has influenced the city: it's easy to get in, but hard to get out the way you planned.

  1. Milwaukee can be quite tricky! It's a good thing you were able to get out of there though.

It took us an extra year to find our way out of MSOE!
